How to keep mosquitoes away – this helps
What helps keep mosquitoes away when summer offers its most magical moments as the evening slows down. When the light softens, conversations deepen, and the wind stills. But amidst all this – the buzzing sound. A single mosquito can ruin the mood, and suddenly we're standing there with plastic mosquito bracelets, stinging spray, and citronella-scented candles.
We don't think it has to be like that.
At Remoair, we believe in fragrance that enhances, not detracts. We have created mosquito protection that feels like an extension of your surroundings – beautiful, effective, and uncompromising. Here's how we think.
Style and protection in the same breath
Mosquito protection has long been a product category dominated by functionality. It should keep mosquitoes away, period. Aesthetics, material choices, and scent often take a back seat to aggressive citrus, garish labels, and solutions that signal "emergency" rather than "presence."
But why shouldn't protection also be beautiful? We asked ourselves that when we began designing our mosquito candles. We wanted something that could be displayed, become part of a table setting, blend into an outdoor room – and still actually work.
For us, every choice – from the color of the wax to the character of the scent – is part of how you feel when you light the candle. It should be a pleasure, not a defensive measure.
Common mosquito repellents – function over form?
We all recognize them:
- Plastic bracelets and stickers in neon colors that promise protection for days but smell of evaporating chemicals
- Citronella candles that reek of synthetic and leave soot marks on the deck
- Spray bottles with red and black labels that whisper "toxic but necessary"
They work – sometimes. But often at the expense of comfort. And that's where we draw the line. We don't believe that function should have to look like a compromise. It should feel like an addition. Like care.
How we create protection with feeling
When we developed our mosquito candles, we didn't start with the insects. We started with the feeling. The scent. The movement of the flame. The color of the glass. How it would feel to light it – with or without mosquitoes.
We chose Citrepel® as the active ingredient – a plant-based substance with up to six hours of protection. We blended it with essential oils like lavender, patchouli, and eucalyptus – subtle, earthy, reassuring. We poured the candles into stylish glasses, free from strong colors or patterns. And we used plant-based wax, without paraffin or petroleum residues.
The result was something we actually want to use – not hide.
Our best tips for a mosquito-free summer evening
-
Light the mosquito candle 15–20 minutes before you settle down. This gives the scent time to spread and create a protective zone.
-
Place several candles strategically. Preferably at ground level and at the outer edges – mosquitoes often come in low.
-
Combine with our mosquito spray if you'll be moving around a lot. The spray also contains Citrepel® and complements the candle when you're on the move.
-
Choose candles you enjoy – even without mosquitoes. This is our best tip for finding protection that doesn't feel like a nuisance.
We believe that mosquito protection can be part of the whole – of the aesthetics, the ritual, and the feeling. And when it's beautiful, it also becomes more useful. More present. More you.
