By taking care of your products, you can extend their lifespan and at the same time reduce your consumption. So, for us, it's natural to give a little extra love to everything you buy. In this article, we thought we'd give you some simple tips on how to extend the life of your scented candles.
Difference between cheap and expensive candles
It's so convenient to buy candles while waiting in line at Rusta or taking that detour through IKEA. Now, we're not going to throw anyone under the bus, but choosing scented candles for the price is the first mistake. Automatically, you'll get candles that burn out quickly. Therefore, you want to buy candles made from higher-density wax. An example of this is sunflower wax, which our scented candles are made from, among other things. These candles burn at a lower temperature, and presto, you can probably figure out that you'll get a candle that burns longer as well.
How long should a candle be lit?
We know it can be hard to resist lighting a candle and just enjoying it all day. Candles in a container do best by burning for only a few hours. This is because the longer the candle burns, the warmer the container gets. If the container gets hot, the candle wax evaporates faster, and you'll run out of candle sooner. Try to stick to these recommendations:
- 100gr / approx. 2-3 hours at a time
- 150gr / approx. 3-4 hours at a time
- 200gr / approx. 4-5 hours at a time
- 300gr / max 5 hours at a time
There's also a trick to prevent the candle from burning like a tunnel. Let the candle burn long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edges. If your candle is on a windowsill, you may need to turn the candle occasionally to maintain an even temperature.
How to trim the wick and why should it be trimmed?
The wick is the candle's engine and the wax is the fuel. The larger the flame, the more the wick consumes the wax. So, to keep the burn time as long as possible, you should trim the wick between uses. It's easiest with a wick trimmer, as it prevents you from damaging the candle or container with large scissors. If you pick the wick with your fingers, remember to wash your hands thoroughly afterward, as a black wick can make them quite sooty.
Trimming the wick also prevents the formation of mushrooms/lumps on the wick.
Create a stash of scented candles
If you want to have candles lit all day long, our best tip is to have a small stash of candles. This way, you can light different candles at different times of the day and let the other candles rest in the meantime. When you're not going to use a candle for a while, natural wax candles benefit from being stored in a dark and dry place, but not cold.
The simplest tip to extend the life of scented candles
Give your candles love and care before, during, and after they burn. The more care, the better the candle!
